Tsunami aid paid two days before Tsunami
(LeN- Oct. 17, 5.15 pm) It is reported that Tsunami aid had been paid two days before the Tsunami at the of Deputy Agriculture Development Commissioners office Badulla.
The Tsunami stuck on the 26th of December 2004. On the 24th of December 2004 at the deputy commissioners office of Agriculture Development, Badulla, a cheque has been issued for Rs. 25000/- under Voucher 127 to the Hali-ela Agriculture Development Account 202, for people displaced by the Tsunami. Another reason to arouse suspicion for this payment was it had been paid from the money set aside for the 1000 tank project.
Another interesting aspect of this entire episode was this expenditure has been approved by the Deputy Commissions office of Agriculture Development Dept. Badulla without any checking and this has been approved by the agriculture development commissions office, Colombo.
Billions of Rupees of aid was received from various countries, organizations, and NGOs and at the inception to various accounts including some special accounts maintained by the President and the Prime Minister. Later it was ordered that all monies should be credited to a special account maintained by the Central Bank. Billions of rupees so receive had been credited to private accounts and some are indicted in counts for misusing these monies.
